Often perimeter roof connections are completed to top of beam, bottom of beam or extending bent plate.  Design coordination between the provider of bent plate critical as bent plate is commonly supplied by steel manufacture prior to completion of connection design.  A combination of slotted angle welded to steel and directional inserts embedded in precast allow for required movement.

When  required, intermediate conditions often include a connection from precast to CIP slab.  In this scenario, CIP embed design and location are coordinated and CIP embeds are installed onsite prior to precast installation per plan.  A combination of slotted angle welded to the CIP embed and directional inserts embedded in precast allow for required movement.

Grouted base connections are a cost effective choice when design criteria will allow for their use. Grout tubes are filled with non-shrink grout (up to 10,000 psi required) prior to panel erection. Dowels protruding from precast are set into wet grout and panel is set at the correct elevation on shims.  Grouting under the base of the panel is completed after precast connections have been completed.

NMB splice sleeves can be used in a variety of precast products that require a type 2 coupler. Rebar is constructed protruding from foundation and then cut to a specific distance above the foundation as required by size of NMB splice sleeve.  Female slice sleeve is embedded in precast and placed over protruding foundation rebar.  Once connection is complete at desired elevation, high strength mortar (that is provided solely by NMB manufacturer) is ejected into the sleeve via grouting tubes to complete connection.

V-Pocket base connections are typically used when design connection performance does not allow for a grout tube connection.  V-pocket connection require a CIP embed to be installed in the foundation prior to precast installation.  Once panel is shimmed to correct elevation, steel tabs are welded between CIP embed and V-shaped precast embed to complete connection.  Access needs to be considered when using connection near columns or other site obstructions.

Precast beams can have bearing on top of columns when required.  Splice couplers that extend a dowel up past top of column are typically used.  Inverted Tee beams that bear directly on column have corrugated grout tubes embedded to allow extended dowel to overlap.  Grout tubes are filled once beam (resting on bearing pads) is at correct elevation.

Pocket assemblies designed to hide connections can be used between Double Tee and Wall Panel assemblies.  Double Tee stem spacing = 6′-0″ and Maximum Double Tee width = 12′-0″.  Supporting wall panel layout is key and often is similar to Double Tee flange width to allow stems (and concentrated loads) to be centered in panel.
