Structural Capacity & Span Ranges

Knife River can cast WFDG girders in 36″, 42″, 50″, 58″, 74″ and 83″ depths.

  • WF39DG (39” deep) spans 100’–115’
  • WF86DG (86” deep) spans 160’–195’
  • WF36TDG (36” deep with 3” deck) spans 100’–120’
  • WF83TDG (83” deep with 3” deck) spans 200’–215’

Knife River Prestress manufactures WFDG girders in compliance with the WSDOT Bridge Design Manual (BDM) and AASHTO LRFD specifications, ensuring optimal performance for long-span bridge applications. Our production facility supports high-strength concrete (8,000-10,000 psi typical), advanced curing techniques, and precision strand tensioning to achieve superior durability and load efficiency.

Design & Performance Advantages

  • Extended Span Capabilities: WFDGs achieve longer spans than DBT girders while maintaining a shallow superstructure profile, reducing overall bridge depth and foundation costs.
  • Optimized Deck Integration: Available with integrated 6” decks to eliminate the need for a separate cast-in-place deck or roughened top flanges for direct deck casting or HMA overlay application.
  • Reduced Girder Count: Compared to DBTs, WFDGs often allow for fewer girders per bridge width, reducing total precast elements, erection time, and material costs.
  • Flexible Configuration: Girder depths match traditional WF girder sizes, with 3” additional height to accommodate the 6” integrated deck, offering a balance of load capacity and constructability.
  • Customizable Options: Available with tapered widths, curved decks, cross-slope adjustments, camber compensation, and driving surface finishes, ensuring project-specific adaptability.
